Brown Auditorium Steps

One of the most popular places to start a graduation session is the staircase outside Brown Auditorium.

The tall columns and wide steps create a classic university look that works beautifully for cap-and-gown portraits. It’s also a great place for group photos with friends before heading across campus for additional locations.

The Bridge Leading to the Quad

The walk across the bridge toward the Illinois State University Quad is a natural transition point during many graduation sessions.

The pathway, trees, and campus views make it a beautiful spot for relaxed walking photos that capture the excitement of graduation day.

The ISU Quad

The Illinois State University Quad is one of the most recognizable places on campus and a must-have location for many graduates.

With open green space, mature trees, and historic campus buildings surrounding it, the Quad provides a classic college backdrop that represents the heart of student life at ISU.

Many graduates spent time here studying, meeting friends between classes, or relaxing on warm spring days, which makes it a meaningful location to include in their graduation photos.

The Redbird Statue

No graduation session at Illinois State University feels complete without a photo at The Redbird Statue.

Often called “The Bird” by students, this statue is one of the most iconic landmarks on campus. It’s a fun tradition for graduating seniors and always a favorite stop during sessions.

Academic Buildings That Shaped Your College Experience

Some of the most meaningful graduation photos happen at the buildings where students spent the most time during their years at ISU.

For some graduates, that might be a classroom building where they took most of their courses. For others, it might be an athletic facility, performance space, or department building connected to their major.

Including these locations makes graduation photos personal and helps tell the story of a student’s time at Illinois State University.

Don’t Forget Photos with Friends

Many graduates choose to invite friends to join part of their session. After all, the friendships formed during college are often one of the most meaningful parts of the experience.

I’ve photographed sessions with:

  • Sorority sisters celebrating together

  • College athletes who became close friends

  • Small groups popping champagne to celebrate graduation

  • Friends who met freshman year and are graduating together

These group photos often become the images graduates treasure most.
